Civil War takes place in the near future where the country is engaged in all-out war with each other. The film never specifically says what this conflict is structured for, or why the particular kingdom is tied together. The main background the story provides is that several national factions have tied up to assassinate the President The plot of the film follows a cross-country journalist hoping to get a scoop on the President. The film is set up like a road trip,with the characters driving 800 miles across the war-torn United States . Along the way,the film's protagonists Lee Joel and Jesse encounter America pockets of settings from bloody war to cities that feel normal What struck me most about this film is that even with its most politically charged subject matter . Instead it focuses on the effects of war media and what life in America would be like if there was a civil war. I was fully expecting the film to tell a story about “this kind of government and politics is bad” and given the volatility of the current political climate, perhaps for the best,the writers didn’t go down that road when making it the film is not.
